ROUND ROCK, Texas – The No. 20 Southern Miss Golden Eagles captured their second win in the 2026 Round Rock Classic with a 9-4 victory over the No. 11 Oregon State Beavers on Saturday night. Sophomore reliever RHP Camden Sunstrom struck out eight batters without allowing a walk or an earned run across 4.0 IP, earning his first win of the season.

Southern Miss CF Joey Urban opened the scoring in the top of the first with a solo homer over the right field wall. Urban’s second round-tripper of the season put the Golden Eagles up, 1-0.

LHP Grayden Harris held the Beavers scoreless with seven strikeouts through the first three frames, but the Oregon State response came in the bottom of the fourth. DH Ryan VandenBrink got aboard via a fielding error and C Jacob Galloway followed with a single. It would be 1B Jacob Krieg to give the Beavers a boost with his three-run homer to right field. Oregon State led 3-1 after four complete.

Southern Miss retook the lead in the top half of the sixth. Urban kicked it off with a triple to right and 1B Matthew Russo drove him in on his base hit to left. With two strikes on him, LF Davis Gillespie drilled his second home run of the season, tying it up, 3-3.

An inning later, Urban gave the Golden Eagles another lead with his third hit of the night, a two-run single up the middle. After the third pitching change of the inning, Gillespie hit a sacrifice fly to left, extending their lead to 7-3.

The Beavers cut the deficit to three after the seventh inning stretch. 2B AJ Singer’s ground ball evaded the glove of 3B Drey Barrett allowing him to reach second with nobody out. Two batters later, CF Nyan Hayes roped a ground ball up the middle and Singer came around to score.

The Golden Eagles got a run back in the eighth after a hit batsman and three consecutive walks for an 8-4 edge.

In the top of the ninth, Southern Miss pieced together one more insurance run. 2B Kyle Morrison poked a two-out, two-strike single through the right side and Gillespie scored from third, bringing their total to 9-4.

RHP Camden Sunstrom retired the side in the bottom of the frame with a pair of strikeouts to give the Golden Eagles their second win in the 2026 Round Rock Classic.

Impressive showing from Southern Miss — a 9-4 win over No. 11 Oregon State is no small statement. Camden Sunstrom’s dominant relief outing with eight strikeouts and zero walks set the tone, while Joey Urban’s early homer gave the Golden Eagles instant momentum. Performances like that are all about execution and confidence — the kind of competitive edge SoFlo Wheelie Life can respect.
