Early ambush helps LSU knock off Notre Dame
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jake Brown collected four hits and scored three runs on
Saturday as the LSU Tigers rolled to a 9-4 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the
Live Like Lou Jax College Baseball Classic from VyStar Ballpark.
LSU (7-0) jumped out to a huge lead in the early innings against Notre Dame (2-3)
starter Caden Crowell (0-1). Seth Dardar doubled with one out in a scoreless second
inning. Two batters later, Brayden Simpson notched an RBI double for the game’s first
run. Trent Caraway followed with an RBI double of his own to make it 2-0.
Steven Milam was hit by a pitch to begin the third. Brown and Zach Yorke followed
with base hits to load the bases. After an infield fly, consecutive RBI singles from Dardar
and Omar Serna Jr. brought home a pair of runs. Simpson then drew a bases-loaded
walk to widen the gap to 5-0.
Brown singled with one out in the fourth. Two batters after that, Cade Arrambide
slugged a two-run shot to increase the Tigers’ lead to 7-0.
Notre Dame got on the board in the fifth. Noah Coy singled and Chase Van Ameyde
walked to start the inning. After a pair of outs, Drew Berkland smacked an RBI single
for the Fighting Irish’s first run.
Mark Quatrani led off the top of the sixth with a single. Following a strikeout, Jayce Lee
blasted a two-run shot to pull Notre Dame within 7-3.
The Tigers got the runs back in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Milam walked and
Brown and Yorke each singled to load the bases. A wild pitch brought Milam home.
Following a strikeout, Dardar was intentionally walked to reload the bases. Serna Jr.
then drew another free pass for a 9-3 advantage.
Jamie Zee singled and Berkland walked for the Fighting Irish to begin the seventh. After
a strikeout, Quatrani walked to load the bases. Parker Brzustewicz then earned
another walk to force in a run and make it 9-4.
Cooper Moore (2-0) earned the win for LSU, yielding three runs on eight hits in 5.2
innings. He struck out six and walked one.
