FRISCO, Texas (March 1, 2026) – Day three of the Frisco Classic brought the weekend
to a close with a close game and a dominant pitching performance.
Game One: Oregon State 4, Iowa 3
The Oregon State Beavers collected their second win of the weekend on Sunday
afternoon, hanging on to beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 4-3 from Riders Field.
The Beavers (6-4) found the scoreboard first in the top of the second when Adam
Haight hammered a 414-foot, two-run home run to make it 2-0.
In the top of the third, Oregon State added on with an AJ Singer safety squeeze and
plated a fourth run in the fourth when Easton Talt tripled home a tally on a smashed fly
ball to centerfield to put the Beavs ahead 4-0.
The Hawkeyes (7-4) fought back in the fourth when Kellen Strohmeyer scored on a
wild pitch and they drew to within 4-3 in the fifth with a Kooper Schulte sacrifice fly and
Joey Nerat RBI single.
From there, both teams’ arms dominated. Despite not pitching to a decision, Maddux
Frese threw the last 5.1 scoreless innings for Iowa and Isaac Yeager (3-1) and Albert
Roblez combined to throw 3.2 runless innings to finish off the game for the Beavers.
Roblez picked up his second save of the weekend and his fourth of the season after
throwing 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Nick Terhaar (1-1) took the loss for Iowa, surrendering two runs over 1.1 innings.
Next, Oregon State takes on the Oregon Ducks in Eugene on Tuesday while Iowa is
back home on Tuesday as well, facing Loras College.
Game Two: Houston 8, Alabama 2
After already clinching a Frisco Classic win on Saturday night, the Alabama Crimson
Tide dropped the finale to the Houston Cougars 8-2.
Kendall Hoffman (1-0) dominated on the mound for the Cougars (7-4), who earned
their first win of the weekend on Sunday night. Hoffman threw 7.2 innings, allowing two
runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one to earn the victory.
Offensively, Houston jumped out in front in the third inning when Dylan Maxcey pasted
a two-run single into left to make it 2-0 against Myles Upchurch (2-1).
Maxcey then drove in another run in the fifth and two more runs scored in the inning on
an error and a sacrifice fly, with RBIs from Carsten Sabathia and Antonelli Savattere,
to push the Houston lead to 5-0.
The Crimson Tide (9-3) finally plated their first run in the home-half of the fifth on an RBI
double from Bryce Fowler, making it 5-1.
Houston took the run back in the top of the eighth with an Irvin Weems RBI single
before Justin Lebron hammered a solo home run for Alabama to force the game to 6-
2.
In the ninth, the Cougars added on with a Cade Climie RBI single and a Peyton
Dickens RBI groundout, pushing the lead to 8-2.
Next, Alabama heads home to face Jacksonville State on Tuesday night while the
Cougars take on Sam Houston in Houston on Tuesday.
