ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles defeated the Baylor Bears by a score of 5-1 on Sunday evening, capturing the 2026 Round Rock Classic Championship title.

In the top of the second, Southern Miss plated their first run without putting a ball in play. Three walks and a hit batsman put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0. SS Seth Smith then recorded a sacrifice fly to center, sending 2B Kyle Morrison home for a 2-0 advantage.

Baylor also took advantage of the pitching struggles in the bottom of the third. Three walks loaded the bags and LF Hunter Snow tallied an RBI after getting hit by a RHP Thomas Crabtree fastball. The Bears trailed, 2-1, after three complete.

The Golden Eagles tacked on one more run in the top half of the fourth. Smith got aboard with a single and RF Ben Higdon moved him to second with his lineout. DH Joey Urban drove Smith in with a two-out single, extending their lead to 3-1.

Both clubs traded zeroes with a combined 10 strikeouts from the bottom of the fourth through the eighth.

The Golden Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth to seal their victory. With runners on first and second, CF William Tonsemeire grounded into a fielder’s choice but 1B Tyce Armstrong’s errant throw allowed 3B Drey Barrett to round third and score. Later in the frame, Smith tallied his third hit of the night and Morrison’s run closed the scoring for a 5-1 final.

The Southern Miss bullpen of RHP Thomas Crabtree, LHP Kros Sivley, RHP Sam Mitchell and RHP JW Armistead held Baylor scoreless with three hits, while striking out 10 across 7.0 IP.

After dropping their first game to UC Santa Barbara on February 13, the Golden Eagles have won five in a row. They will head back to Hattiesburg to host the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday.

Baylor went 0-3 at the Round Rock Classic. The Bears will return home, welcoming Stephen F. Austin to Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark on Tuesday.
