Indiana cruises to 6-1 win over UCF
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hogan Denny lashed three hits and scored three runs and
Cooper Malamazian drove in three runs to help the Indiana Hoosiers beat the UCF
Knights 6-1 on Saturday in the Live Like Lou Jax College Baseball Classic from VyStar
Ballpark.
Indiana (2-4) jumped out to an early lead against UCF (4-2) starter Joey Trombley (1-
1). Ayden Crouse led off the bottom of the first with a single before stealing second.
Denny promptly scored him with an RBI base knock before also swiping second base.
Following a pair of outs, Malamazian walked. Landen Fry then singled home Denny to
make it 2-0.
With one out in the bottom of the third, Brayden Ricketts was hit by a pitch and Jake
Hanley walked. Malamazian followed with an RBI single to widen the gap to 3-0.
The Hoosiers tacked on two more runs in the fifth. Crouse and Denny each singled to
jumpstart the frame. After a sacrifice bunt, Crouse scored on an error. Malamazian’s
RBI single then gave Indiana a 5-0 advantage.
The lone Knights run came in the sixth. Jordan Lodise walked and Andrew
Williamson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. After a strikeout, Lodise stole third.
Following a fly out, Javier Crespo collected an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Indiana quickly got the run back. Denny singled to lead off the seventh and Ricketts
followed with a double. After a walk, a Malamazian sacrifice fly set the final margin at 6-
1.
Hoosiers starter Brayton Thomas (1-0) surrendered only one run on one in in 5.0
innings to earn the win. Reagan Rivera fired 4.0 scoreless innings of relief.
