Nine-run LSU eighth vaults Tigers by Hoosiers to open Live Like Lou Jax CBC
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Zach Yorke notched three hits and drove in four and Derek
Curiel scored four runs as the LSU Tigers scored nine runs in the eighth inning Friday
to surge by the Indiana Hoosiers 14-7 from VyStar Ballpark.
Indiana (1-4) led 5-4 when Curiel jumpstarted the eighth with a single against Hoosiers
reliever Jackson Yarberry (0-1). After a fly out, Mason Braun singled. Yorke then
blasted a three-run home run to put LSU (6-0) ahead 705. Back-to-back walks to
Steven Milam and Cade Arrambide brought up Seth Dardar, who brought in a run on
a double. Tanner Reaves’ bunt single drove in two more runs before Trent Caraway
and Curiel each walked to load the bases. Reaves scored on an RBI ground out before
Braun drove in two more with a base knock to widen the gap to 13-5.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Cal Gates walked. Landen Fry followed with
a base knock. Consecutive RBI singles by Cole Decker and Ayden Crouse drew the
Hoosiers within 13-7.
Arrambide and Jack Ruckert began the ninth with walks before a wild pitch moved the
runners to second and third. After a strikeout and hit by pitch, Curiel lined a sacrifice fly
to right to set the final margin at 14-7.
The Tigers started the scoring with a run in their first at-bats. Curiel led off the game
with a base hit. After a fly out and strike out, Yorke singled to put runners on the corners
for Milam, who smacked an RBI base knock to plate Curiel for the game’s first run.
LSU added to their lead in the third. Caraway began the inning with a base hit. After a
fielder’s choice, Jake Brown walked. A balk put both runners in scoring position before
a John Pearson walk loaded the bases. Yorke then lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
The Hoosiers gained the advantage in the bottom of the third. Fry led off with an infield
single before advancing to second on a fielder’s choice. Back-to-back walks from T.J.
Schuyler and Will Moore loaded the bases. Indiana got on the board on Hogan
Denny’s RBI single. A Brayden Ricketts single coupled with an error gave the
Hoosiers a 3-2 lead.
Indiana led 3-2 when John Pearson singled for LSU with one out in the top of the fifth
inning. Zach walked before Milam’s RBI single tied the score at three. Arrambide walked
to load the bases before Dardar drew another free pass to force in a run and give the
Tigers a 4-3 lead.
Fry began the bottom of the seventh by reaching on an error. He advanced to third on a
Decker base hit. Following a strike out, Moore’s RBI ground out knotted up the score and advanced Decker to second. Denny then gave Indiana (2-3) the lead with an RBI
single to make it 5-4.
Gavin Guidry (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief.
